Passports

PASSPORT RENEWAL

Processing time: 4 to 6 weeks approximately.

The electronic passport must be renewed in person at the Consulate of Panama in New York.

  1. Valid Panamanian ID (CÉDULA)

  2. Expired or soon to be expired passport

  3. In case of lost passports, you must file a complaint with the Consulate or to the Police Authorities in your state

  4. Birth certificate

  5. Two (2) passport photos (See Photo requirements)

***Please Note: In case of not providing a Cedula, must bring a Valid Id for a Consultation application which will be subject to approval by the PANAMANIAN PASSPORT AUTHORITY.

In the case of MINORS, the following requirements must be provided:

  1. Authorization letter form for passport renewal signed by both parents

  2. Valid ID of both parents

***Note: In case one of the parents is absent, the authorization letter must be signed in the nearest consulate by the other parent. Please inform your consular officer for better guidance.

PAYMENTS AND FEES: Payment can ONLY be done through (2) Money orders

REGULAR PASSPORTS

32-page passport, the cost is $ 185.00 which must be distributed as follows:

  1. Money order for  $110.00 payable to FONDO ESPECIAL DE PASAPORTE.

  2. Money order for $75.00 payable to: CONSULADO DE PANAMA.          

RETIREE PASSPORTS

Women: older than 55

Men:  older than 60

For a 32-page passport, the cost is $130.00 which must be distributed as follows:

  1. Money order for  $60.00 payable to FONDO ESPECIAL DE PASAPORTE.

  2. Money order for $75.00 payable to: CONSULADO DE PANAMA.          

PHOTOS REQUIREMENTS

Two photos Passport size (2x2) that fulfill the OACI requirements:

  1. White background

  2. Frontal view

  3. Ears must be visible. Only a pair of small earrings are allowed in women. No earrings allowed for men

  4. No piercings

  5. No hair accessories or high up

    do or

    extravagant hairstyles

  6. No off the shoulder, cleavage showing or White blouses

  7. No hoodies

  8. No glasses nor colored contact lenses

  9. Neutral facial expressions, no smiles or do not show teeth

TRAVEL DOCUMENT

According to U. S regulations, any individual traveling must be a valid passport holder. Travel documents will only allow entrance to the national country in case of an emergency. Once in national territory, the applicant must renew the passport for departure.

Processing time: two to five business days (with proper documentation).

Validity: 30 DAYS. Please revise your traveling days before applying.

Requirements:

  • Travel document form. Please include the date of travel in the form or flight itinerary.

  • Copy of Passport, birth certificate, and cedula.

  • Two passport photos.

PAYMENTS AND FEES:

ONLY FORM OF PAYMENT: (2) Money orders

  1. A first Money order for $48.00, made out to CONSULATE OF PANAMA.

  2. A second Money order for $30.00, made out to FONDO ESPECIAL DE PASAPORTE.

***PLEASE NOTE: Every applicant must apply and pick up the travel document in person. 

Traveling with minors

Article 40 of Law Decree No. 30 of February 22, 2008, establishes that the departures from the national territory of any Panamanian or foreign minor under any migratory category, will be allowed in the following cases:

 

1. The child must be accompanied by both parents

2. In case is accompanied by only one of their parents, a written authorization of the other parent must be duly authenticated by the consulate

3. If accompanied by one of their parents and holds the letter that stays the authorization of the judge duly authorized to do so, and in case of the loss of one of the parents, the death certificate of the absentee will be added

4. If accompanied by a third party must submit written authorization of both parents as established in numerals 2 and 3 of this article

5. If the underage person travels alone, he/she must present the written authorization of both parents, as established in numbers 2 and 3 of this article

 

NOTE: THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BY THE CONSULATE OF PANAMA IN THE U. S. CONTACT YOUR NEAREST CONSULATE.

Traveling with Pets

If you are bringing pets to Panama, be sure to follow the following steps:

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY OF SMALL PETS TO PANAMA:

  1. You will be asked upon arrival at Tocumen Airport for a Certificate of Good Health of Exportation for Small Animals issued by the Sanitary Authority from the country of origin. Within the United States, you will be able to get this Certificate of Good Health at the U.S. Department of Agriculture( U.S.D.A.)
  2. This form has to be certified by an official U.S.D.A. Veterinary and the pet's veterinary. This certificate can be found under Pet Travel on the U.S.D.A. webpage or at the following link: "https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/by-country/pettravel-panama"
  3. After you get the certificate with the two signatures send it to a Panamanian Consulate for the authentication
  4. The Consular Fee is $30.00 per document, payable by money order made out to the Consulate of Panama
  5. You must include a Self-addressed prepaid envelope for return of documents, please write in clear print "TRAVELING WITH PET" on the outside of the envelope

NOTE: Make sure to check with your airline for further information regarding airline guidelines when you are traveling with pets. Be aware that the airlines require a U.S.D.A. Certificate valid for at least 10 days from the day it was issued.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE PAPERWORK FOR HOME QUARANTINE TO GIVE UPON ARRIVAL IN PANAMA

  1. Fill out the form "Home Quarantine Request"
  2. Upon arrival at the Tocumen Airport, all documents previously mentioned have to be given to the Veterinary Doctor of the Department of Zoonosis Control, who will verify the same
  3. If the owner fulfills all requirements, the animal(s) will be given back to its owner. If the requirements are not fulfilled, the pet will be sent back to the country of origin using the same airline in which the pet arrived
  4. The fee for the Home Quarantine is B/.130.00ºº per animal paid only in cash at Tocumen Airport

NOTEFax the completed “Home Quarantine Request" form to (507) 238-3855 / (507) 238-4059 or email it to cam@minsa.gob.pa.  

This form must be sent to the Ministry of Health authorities three (03) days prior to your arrival in Panama.

Take note of the following ministry working hours at the Tocumen International Airport in Panama:

  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm
  • Offices are closed on weekends and holidays.

Registry of births, marriages and deaths

BIRTHS

1) Registry of Birth in Consular Offices

You may only register the birth of Panamanian citizens born abroad through our offices if they are minors (under 18 years of age).

Processing time:  3 to 4 months

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Original birth certificate or a certified copy issued by the Office of Vital Records.

  2. Translation of the certificate to Spanish by an authorized public translator in the United States or Panama.

  3. Present a valid Panamanian I.D. for both parents. If one of the parents is not Panamanian they must submit their passport.

  4. The Panamanian parent must render a sworn affidavit.

Fee: $192.00

Provide Pre-paid envelope for return of documents if not coming to pick up in person.

Note: This process must be done in our offices. 

2) Registry of Birth in Panama

You may also register the birth of Panamanian Citizens directly in Panama.

Prior to traveling to Panama, you must send the following documents to our offices:

  • Send an original birth certificate or a certified copy issued by the Office of Vital Records
  • Any official document to be authenticated by the Consulate must be an original document or certified copy with original seal and signature
  • The Consular Fee is $30.00 per document, payable by money order made out to the Consulate of Panama
  • Self-addressed prepaid envelope for return of documents.

 

MARRIAGE

1) Registry of Marriage in Consular Offices

Processing time:  3-4 months

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Original Marriage certificate or a certified copy issued by the Office of Vital Records.
  2. Translation of the certificate to Spanish by an authorized public translator in the United States or Panama

  3. Panamanian valid ID  (cedula) of both spouses. If one of the applicants is not Panamanian they must submit their passport.

  4. Bring two witnesses and provide a passport or valid ID.

Fee: $144.00

Provide Pre-paid envelope for return of documents if not coming to pick up in person.

NOTE: This process may only be done in our offices and both applicants must come personally.

2) Registry of Marriage in Panama

You may also register your Marriage directly in Panama.

Prior to traveling to Panama, the original marriage certificate along with any original private documents that may be needed for the application must be authenticated by the consulate.

Authentication fee is $30.00 per document (see Authentication for more information)

 

DEATH

1) Registry of Death in Consular Offices

You may only register the death of Panamanian citizens that occurred abroad through our offices.

Processing time: 3 to 4 months

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Original Death certificate or a certified copy issued by the Office of Vital Records
  • Translation of the certificate to Spanish by an authorized public translator in the United States
  • Copy of a Panamanian I.D. of the deceased
  • Copy of any form of I.D. of the family member that is registering the death. This may be done by the spouse, parents, siblings or children

Fee: $144.00

Pre-paid envelop for the return of documents.

Note: This process must be done in our offices. 

2) Registry of Death in Panama

You may also register the Death of a Panamanian citizen that occurred abroad directly in Panama.

Proof of Life

La fe de vida es exonerada de pago y certifica la supervivencia de los que reciben cheque de pensión o Jubilación de la Caja de Seguro Social de Panamá.

Estas certificaciones se realizan cada 6 meses o anualmente dependiendo de su caso. Favor comunicarse con la Caja de Seguro Social para verificar su caso.

Podrá aplicar por la fe de vida en nuestras oficinas. Sin embargo, NO ES NECESARIO venir en persona. También tiene opción de realizarlo por medio de un notario público. En tal caso, favor solicitar formulario de carta de fe de vida por notario.

Deberá adjuntar copia de ID de caja de seguro social, copia de cedula o pasaporte vigente y un sobre pre-pagado para la devolución de los documentos.

En caso de vencimiento de identificaciones panameñas, deberá presentar adicionalmente una copia de una identificación válida.

Tiempo de procesamiento: Usualmente el mismo día (en persona)

Costo: Exonerado.

Legalizations

One of the functions of the Consulate is to establish the authenticity of documents for international use. To be valid in Panama, most documents – public or private – must be legalized or authenticated, unless they bear an apostille (public certification used in countries that are in compliance with the provisions of the 1961 Hague Convention).

LEGALIZATION:

  • Documents from only these states can be authenticated by the Consulate of Panama in New York: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, or Rhode Island.
  • Official document to be authenticated must be an original document or certified copy with original seal and signature.
  • Original private documents must be signed in front of a Panamanian Consulate Official or endorsed by a Notary Public of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, or Rhode Island.
  • The Panama Consular Fee is $30.00 per signature to be legalized.
  • Diplomas and School Transcripts: When it has been issued within the last six (6) months there is no cost for authentication for Panamanian citizens. Documents older than that are $30.00 per signed document.

When sent by mail, documents to be legalized must include a self-addressed prepaid envelope for their return; we recommend using prepaid courier services such as Fedex, UPS or TNT. Please also include a written request indicating the name, address and telephone number of the applicant to be contacted for any required additional information.
